don’t ruin your new candle (read this!)

so, you bought a new candle. first step: take a picture, post it, and tag us! we want to see our babies out in the wild.

now, listen up. the first burn is the most important. why? because wax has a memory.

if you light that candle and blow it out after 20 minutes (while the wax pool is just a tiny circle), your candle will hold a grudge. it will remember that small circle and never burn past it again. this is called tunneling. it’s ugly, it wastes wax, and it ruins the vibe—kind of like a bad ex.

how to avoid the drama:

  1. commit to the burn: for the first light, keep it burning for at least 3 hours (or until the melted wax touches the edges of the jar).
  2. check the draft: don’t put the candle near a window thinking the breeze will spread the scent. it won’t. it will just push the flame to one side, cause uneven burning, and potentially set your curtains on fire. we love repeat customers, but not because you burned your house down.

the bottom line:

  • burn until the wax hits the glass.
  • don’t leave it unattended (duh).
  • no drafts.
  • trim your wick before every relight. (more on that later).
